Nanoparticle surface modification and nanocomposite fabrications
Various nanoparticles such as silica, alumina, carbon nanotube (CNT), boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS), boron nitride nanotube (BNNT), and quantum dot have been incorporated in thermally or UV curable polymers to fabricate nanocomposites with enhanced properties such as high electric or thermal conduction, dielectric strength, quantum yield, and environmental stability etc. Polymers are epoxy, optical grade acrylate, high thermal silicone. In order to get the best results, dispersion of the nanoparticles in matrix polymers is a prerequisite. Here surface modification methods for the dispersion will be presented including supercritical fluid treatment, ultrasound treatment, and silane treatment. Few examples about specific applications of the nanocomposite will also be presented including thermal dissipation materials, photo-transformation film, high dielectric materials.
