Preparation of functional carbon fibers and their composites

In order to develop the high quality EMI-SE materials for protective composite, Ni-plated carbon fiber fabrics (Ni-CFFs) were prepared by an electroless method. Effects of post heat-treatment conditions on EMI-SE and electrical conductivity of Ni-CFFs/epoxy composites were also investigated. The morphologies and structural properties of Ni-CFFs were measured by SEM and XRD. It was found that the crystallinity of Ni particles was increased after post heat-treatment. It was also found that the EMI-SE of composites enhanced with increasing post heat-treatment time. This result concludes that the EMI-SE of the composites can be enhanced according to the microstructure of Ni in the Ni-CFFs/epoxy composites.
